A SANCTUARY FOR WILDLIFE
Half pasture & half bush. From the extensive native plantings surrounding the house to the rising slopes of regenerated forest, enjoy a sea of green.
Explore the creek bank, hidden waterfalls or fern forests or sit back on one of the decks and let nature come to you.
It is possible to spot a myriad of birdlife, wallabies, echidna’s, wombats, glowworms and platypus if you sit quietly and know where to look.
In the pastures, we breed Scottish Highlander cattle renowned for their long shaggy coats while in the gardens we provide fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and eggs from our friendly chickens.
STYLE
Formerly an old school house, Platypus Bend has been extensively renovated and enlarged to feature four bedrooms and three bathrooms comfortably and luxuriously sleeping at least eight adult guests.
Quality appliances, including two ovens and an induction stove top plus a well equipped kitchen are perfect for self-catering in style.
Luscious linen, bath towels and beach / creek towels are provided and cooking basics are supplied.
In the lounge, there is a state of the art projector screen for TV, movies or games and, throughout the house, a multi-zone music system can be used to stream our music or share your own music.
There is enough WIFI for staying in touch but not for downloading movies.
Outdoors, there are decks on both sides and both floors.
The gardens are truly beautiful and have subtle extensive LED lighting. Perfect for an evening stroll or just to admire from the deck.
HEATING & COOLING
In winter choose from lighting one or both of the wood fires or using the gas and/or electric heaters.
With a floating concrete floor, large eaves, opening verandah roof and opposing windows, the house is environmentally designed to remain cool during all but the most extreme of summer days without the need for air-conditioning. There are fans in the bedrooms and dining area if needed.
BEDDING CONFIGURATIONS
There are two King beds and one can be converted to two singles upon request.
The wall between the two downstairs bedrooms Bedrooms 2 & 3 can be opened up to create one large suite.
Bedroom 1 has a wall mounted TV.
Bedroom 4 has a DVD player.
CHILDREN
Children are welcome on the property and there is a large garden and lawn to play in BUT no responsibility will be taken for children staying at or visiting the property. Please supervise carefully taking into consideration the unfenced dam and creek, stairs, verandas, balconies, the footbridge, the jetty, snakes, spiders & cleaning chemicals.
If your child requires specialised items (cots or highchairs) please bring these with you.
DOG FRIENDLY
If you would like to bring your dog along to Platypus Bend, please submit a written request to us stating the breed and temperament and any other relevant information. (Maximum of 2 dogs).
If evidence of a pet is discovered without approval, you will be charged for steam cleaning of carpets, furniture and/or mess left by the pet/s, plus an administration fee of $100.
Once you have permission to have your dog with you, it is expected that a few simple rules of courtesy are followed:
All pets must be approved in writing prior to the stay
Any mess, including outdoors, must be wrapped and placed in outside bins
Pet bedding must be supplied by guest
Please restrict your pet to the hard floor areas and do not allow it onto furniture or into bedrooms

Abundant in every way - comfortable bedding, plenty of lounges inside and outside, lovely artwork and garden sculptures, kitchen pantry well stocked (although we bought all our own needs), a real coffee machine with coffee, so many kitchen cupboards! Wonderful veggie garden and chooks and the most gorgeous highland cows and 6 calves we've ever seen. A lovely 3 nights for 3 generations to enjoy.
This is a beautiful house, defined by the wonderful river which runs through the property. We swam, lay on the rocks and walked. The gardens are gorgeous and we enjoyed eating outside, having our dogs with us and having a picnic by the dam. Amazing birds and orchards. Loved getting veggies from the garden and fresh eggs. Main bedroom magnificent. All in all an incredible place. Only suggestion - it would have been great to get some info on best spots to find platypus.
Our family had a wonderful stay at Platypus Bend enjoying the gardens and amazing house which was very well provisioned. The kids loved collecting the eggs each morning andxsearcjing for the wombats that we knew were there but just couldn't find! Well be back.
This is our second stay at Platypus Bend. We absolutely love it here. The grounds are amazing, the house is so well equipped with everything you need. Always well presented. Staff are always helpful and prompt at getting back to us. It is one of the best farmstays we have stayed at and I'm sure it won't be the last time.
Our extended family of seven adults and three children had a long week at Platypus Bend and it wasn't long enough. The kids mucked about in the creek for hours, and loved feeding the chooks and collecting herbs from the garden. The adults also enjoyed strolling (some of us hiking) around the property. We were very lucky with sensational winter sunshine, but I think hunkering down in front of the fire would have been just as enjoyable. The house had everything imaginable, including consumables like wood for the fire, insect repellent, aluminium foil, shampoo/conditioner, eggs from the chooks. Heaps of cooking equipment, coffee machine. Plenty of heaters, great BBQ. There are also heaps of guides about how to use the heaters, ovens, TV, sound system etc. The house was immaculately clean, well appointed and luxurious. The gardens are beautiful. My mother-in-law brought her little dog, who also had a lovely time. The house was perfect for our family, with spaces to withdraw to as well as spaces to come together. We're thinking about a warm weather stay next time.

We really enjoyed Platypus Bend. It was very quite and secluded and had a very nice feel. Luxury in a great rural setting!
Platypus Bend is amazing property set beside a lovely creek with it's own watering hole. Surrounded by pastures with Highland Cattle. You can't help but smile at them!! This home is a great place to stay for an escape!
